2016 pig performance summary

This past weekend MetaFarms released their performance summaries for the 2016 production year. For those unfamiliar with MetaFarms, this a private production record company based in Burnsville, MN. Data in their system comes from production facilities in the United States (primarily upper Midwest region) and Canada. In 2016, the performance data came from 15.0 million weaned pigs started in nurseries, 17.9 million pigs started on feed in finishing facilities and 5.5 million pigs weaned into single-stock wean-finish facilities. Fire and Life Safety Standards for Swine Housing

Ag buildings, including swine production facilities, are generally exempt from the UBC (Uniform Building Code). Along with this exemption comes confusion as to how to rate ag buildings as it relates to various fire codes. Currently each insurance company applies standards that they think best fit the risks they have identified when insuring production agriculture facilities.
